25 Oct Citizenry Spectrum
Equal citizenry requires more than equal access. It’s a three part process centred on the principle of equal experience: access, inclusion and participation.
Access is about environments- think door widths, desk heights, way finding, tactile surfaces, ramps. Inclusion is about attitudes- think opportunities to be a part of something, invitations to be involved, welcoming. Participation is about action -think actually doing stuff- working, going places, living in community.
When people live in a place where they can get in, are invited in and can join- in regardless of who they are, where they are from, their age or their ability- that is equal citizenry, that is community.
What do you think it will take?
